My name is Danny Day and I am from the wonderful city of Yakima, Washington. I have been blessed to have been born and raised in this bountiful valley here in the Pacific Northwest, known as The Apple Capital of the World.
Like many Yakima Valley residents whose livelihood is intertwined with the apple business, I was raised in an orchard and farming community. The apple business has led me to many places in the world where apples are grown and processed such as China, Eastern Europe, Western Europe and Mexico. I truly enjoy the experience of traveling in under developed countries and meeting people from different places.
When Rand Elliot, another Yakima entrant, shared the story of Peking to Paris with me, I was hooked. For nearly a year, I followed the site and dreamt of the possibilities. Then, last summer, I decided go for it. As fate would have it, my friend Billy Shields was returning to Yakima from Alaska due to an unfortunate meeting of large rock and his boat. Upon arrival we and our significant others were at dinner when I shared with Bill what I wanted to do. The first words out of his mouth were, "I'm in." Within a few days the car was purchased and we were literally off to the races.
To add meaning to this adventure, Bill and I have decided we wanted to tie our experience to a very worthwhile cause. Pegasus Project is a Therapeutic Riding Center for special needs children. We are asking friends, family, customers and suppliers to pledge from $.05 to $5.00 per mile for every mile we complete on this journey for this very worthy cause. To make a pledge, please contact me or visit the link on our web page.
I would like to thank my wife, Valerie, and children, Natalie and Michael, for their support and encouragement on this adventure.
Also, the staff at Sunfair Marketing, who are more than capable of steering the ship when I am away on the road to Paris. Thank you, Janet Schlect, Butch Schlagel, Tyler White, Amity Hager, Kay Barchus and Steve Barnett.
