The Car

Year: 1939
Make: Dodge
Model: Business CP
Engine: ~200hp(I) Chrysler L head 6 Cylinder 265 in³

This car bagan life as a 1939 Dodge Business Coupe. Bill found it in Art Denhoff's pasture in Selah last August.

In the intervening months the '39 Dodge has undergone significant modifications to prepare for the rigors of the 10,000 mile rally across Asia and Europe. The first phase was a complete disassembly and a trip to the chemical dip in Portland, Oregon to remove all paint and rust from the body. The chrome trim was sent out for repair and restoration and the chassis was reinforced to make it off-road worthy. Suspension, steering and brakes were improved for speed across the often roadless terrain.

The engine was upgraded with a Chrysler block housing and custom made internals to produce double the original horse power while remaining faithful to the rules and spirit of the event. The transmission came from a Chevrolet pickup, the differential is a Ford 9 inch racing unit. Also a Gear Vendors overdrive was installed. Larger wheels and tires are the only external hints of the performance potential.

Creature comfort has been enhanced with Recaro bucket seats, an onboard refrigerator/freezer, sound/video system and full insulation and upholstery. Navigation is accomplished by use of two GPS systems and a Monet rally computer. Reliability is aided by two battery systems, dual spare tires and spare parts and tools. Drivers are protected by Nascar safety harnesses and a padded roll bar.

This car is both functional and beautiful. The body work makes the car look amazing with a light cream enamel paint done by The Trick Shop in Yakima.
